“Green Book” Movie Review and Trailer

1962

Dr. Donald Shirley (Mahershala Ali) is an accomplished pianist in a trio that is embarking on a whirlwind, two month, concert tour of high-class establishments in the deep south.

Shirley is high-class, single, black, and gay.

Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen) is a New York Italian bouncer at the Copacabana. He is married to Dolores (Linda Cardinelli). Unemployed while the Copacabana is undergoing renovation for the next two months….Tony interviews for a driving position with Dr. Shirley.

Tony is middle class, racist, and tough.

What follows is a movie that is life-affirming.

“Green Book” refers to a green colored book that shows where a black person in 1962, in the deep south, can stay and eat. This movie won the Best Picture Oscar in 2019, and it is truly one of the best movies we have ever seen. Spectacular is an understatement.

Two men in a car evoke all of humanities good and bad. Mortensen and Ali are simply astounding.

We streamed this movie during Comcast’s free week.
