Charlie (Freddie Highmore) is a smart kid, great chef, and an underachiever.
His mom, Samantha (Marg Helgenberger), is always asking him if he is depressed. Charlie denies it, but, he is. He dropped out of college and is living half a life after a tragic event when he was younger. He is perfectly content living with his mom and working at the local movie theater.
He has no drive or goals….
Amber (Odeya Rush) is a barista in a local coffee shop. She is dating a nearly famous runner (for the past 4 years!) but is not happy.
Amber is off to NYU in the fall and is looking forward to a productive interesting life.
Until an unexpected event…..
Charlie likes Amber and visits the coffee shop every chance he gets. But he is shy (not strange…just different) and cannot really strike up a decent conversation with Amber, who eventually does, and the two become friends…..well….more than friends….maybe.

“Almost Friends” is a sweet movie about two kids growing up…..each with problems that are weighing them down…..until they find each other. We loved it.
