Will (Ben Foster) and his daughter, Tom (Thomasin McKenzie), are living in a vast park in Oregon. They have plenty of food, they have shelter, they sleep well, and have plenty to do during the day. In fact, Tom is “home-schooled” by Will….everything is fine.
Until, one day, a jogger sees Tom when she was reading her book on nature.
Darn.
The next thing you know, the police and search and rescue dogs find Will and Tom and bring them in for testing / counseling.
Will is a veteran with PTSD and has a hard time being with people and staying still. He needs to be constantly on the move.
Tom is growing up and she wants to stay in one place and be a normal teenager. She tells Will that she does not have his problem with staying put.
The authorities are really nice to the pair, finding them a nice home (far away from civilization), a decent job, and……oh, shit….
Will is not happy, so off they go.
But this time….
Oh, to see what happens, you will have to stream the movie on Amazon Prime. 🙂
“Leave No Trace” is a terrific movie with few words, but, plenty to say: Mostly about the effects of PTSD and raising a child (Will did an amazing job) while living on the land and, mostly, away from civilization. Then the child grows up, and painful decisions need to be made.
