“The New Mutants” Movie Review

After being the only survivor of a horrific “tornado”, Dani Moonstar (Blu Hunt), wakes up to find herself in a hospital handcuffed to a bed.

Dr. Reyes (Alice Braga) sees her stirring via a video camera and she visits Dani to tell her where she is and, more importantly, what she is……

A new mutant.

Since new mutants, teenagers just after puberty, cannot control their powers, Dr. Reyes is there to help them identify and control their powers. Once they accomplish this, they can move to the next step: An X-Men facility.

Dani meets the four other mutants being held in the “hospital”.

Sam, Illyana, Dani, Roberto, Rahne

Rahne Sinclair (Maise Williams) shape shifts into a wolf and has killed a priest who branded (with a W) her a witch.

Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy) grows a metal arm and shining sword. She killed 18 men before coming here.

Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton) becomes a glowing projectile. He killed his father and many other coal miners.

Roberto da Costa (Henry Zaga) turns into a fireball when he gets excited. He burned his girlfriend to death.

These four, after the arrival of Dani, start experiencing their worst fears…..

Can it be Dani doing this?

WTF.

All hell breaks loose as the lies and Dani’s powers gain strength…….horror and death follows.

To see what happens, you will have to watch the movie. 🙂

“The New Mutants” has been a troubled film right from the beginning. Filming ended several years ago, but, with reshoots, and now, a pandemic, it was finally released in 2020 to horrible reviews and really nowhere to go in the new, Marvel X-Men universe.

That said….it is a fun, near-horror, mutant flick with some amazing action and even more amazing acting talent. I enjoyed it and am glad I watched it. The haters can go to hell with the orange idiot they probably love.
