Movie Review: “The Tender Bar”

This movie is a true story based on the memoir written by Author JR Moehringer.

Young JR and his mother (Lily Rabe) have hit a rough patch and need to move back into Grandpa’s (Christopher Lloyd) house.

Mom feels like this makes her a loser, but, JR loves his Grandpa and all the relatives that either live in the house or visit….especially his Uncle Charlie (Ben Affleck).

With a missing Dad (Max Martini) who he only hears on the radio (the loser is a DJ). Uncle Charlie, who runs the local bar (Dickens) on Long Island in the town of Manhasset, becomes his surrogate father.

And life growing up is mostly good.

JR loves to read and Uncle Charlie encourages that with zillion books and the hope that JR becomes an author.

An older JR (Ty Sheridan) attends Yale University and….becomes an author (click the link above).

To see what happens, you can watch this movie on Amazon Prime. 🙂

“The Tender Bar” is a terrific movie about a Long Island family with a really smart kid who happens to be growing up in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. The music is great fun and the fact that it takes place on Long Island is even funner. 🙂 Watching how the people from Long Island interact with love for each other made me homesick: And if you don’t like it…..F*ck you too, a$$hole. 🙂
