Immortal Amazon warrior, Princess Diana of Themyscira (Gal Gadot), is now working, in 1984, as an archeologist at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.
In addition to her daily job, Diana grabs her lasso of truth, dons her warrior outfit and saves people in the D.C. area. Cool stuff.
A pompous blowhard marketing dude, Maxwell Lord (The Mandalorian, errr, Pedro Pascal), is all air and no substance as his so-called oil business is basically a failing Ponzi scheme. His last investor is about to pull the plug, and Maxwell is desperate.
Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig) is a new employee at the Smithsonian. Minerva is very smart, but, socially inept and, unfortunately, bullied. She is, among other things, a gemologist now looking into the origins of a rare artifact that the inscription says will grant one wish to the holder.
Well…..one wish becomes many and the fate of the world rests with Diana Prince…..Wonder Woman!
To see what happens, you can rent this on any of many streaming apps for $19.99. FYI, we used Fandango-Now for, probably, the last time, as the developers of the app seemed to have forgotten the use of the “play” button, and “pause” button, and added multiple, non-erasable, presences of the movie on our Sony A8G 4k TV (I finally got it working after uninstalling and re-installing the app, keeping the sound on “TV sound” instead of the “Sony sound bar”, and finding the right damn buttons to push). Terrible Fandango engineering….shame on them. 😦
“Wonder Woman 1984” is not as good as the first movie, but, is still a gloriously filmed, fun, action-packed fantasy good for pretty much the whole family. It was not very well reviewed by the idiot critics on IMDb who seem to hate, be afraid of, strong women and love the Orange idiot. These are all small-minded dolts totally incapable of an original thought. Frighteningly, some of the riot scenes, and the reasons for those riots, are SCARILY predicting, and horribly similar to, the REAL insurrection on Capitol Hill (in Washington D.C.) on Jan 6, 2021.
On a brighter note…..stay for a REALLY COOL mid-credit scene that, for us older folks at least, is FANTASTIC!
I wonder if George Orwell had an influence here? 🙂
