“Jungle Cruise” Movie Review

Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) is seeking funding to travel to the Amazon to find an elusive tree thought to have flowers that will be able to be used as medicine to cure all ills.

If she can find this tree, while it is flowering, she believes she can change the world…for the good.

Unfortunately, all those who have preceded her in this tree quest have been cursed and, in fact, still roam the river banks, even 400 years later……as cursed beings.

Since she is a woman in the early 1900’s, her brother, MacGregor (Jack Whitehall), is helping her acquire funding from a society filled with stodgy old men.

She figures the chance of success is zero, and, guess what?

She was right.

But, not taking no for an answer, the ever creative Dr. Lily finds, errrr, steals, a crucial part of the tree finding puzzle: An ancient arrowhead, upon which is supposedly written directions to the tree.

Road trip!

Once at the Amazon, Lily and MacGregor connect with a joking, scam artist, river boat captain, Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson….The Rock) to help her find the lost tree.

After some negotiations….the three of them take off on the adventure of a lifetime, and….

Oh, to find out what happens, you will have to watch this movie on Disney+ where we paid $30 to have a pandemically appropriate movie night!

“Jungle Cruise” is a fun action adventure with a bit of violence (PG-13) so the little kids might get scared at times…..hmmmm, I got scared! Lori mentioned that The Rock fits this kind of movie, and I agree. Emily Blunt fits in any kind of movie, just saying. 😉 At times, this movie feels a lot like “Pirates of the Caribbean”, just not quite as good.

We plan to watch it again as sooooo much was going on, especially near the end, that we want to make sure we did not miss anything super important.
