After spending years in Mica, Arizona, Stargirl Caraway (Grace VanderWaal) and her (new) mother, Ana (Judy Greer), headed off for a new job for Ana, leaving all of Stargirl’s friends behind. See my review of “Stargirl” here.
Several jobs later, Stargirl is tired of bouncing around and makes her mother promise her that they will stay in Los Angeles (where Ana is now working as a costume designer on a movie!) for her entire senior year of high school.
Ana promises.
Moving into a really cool apartment in LA, Stargirl meets her downstairs neighbor, grumpy retired movie producer Mr. Mitchell (Judd Hirsch), and the landlord’s son Evan (Elijah Richardson).
These two people are at the opposite ends of life: Mr. Mitchell is just waiting to die, while Evan, with his brother Terrell (Tyrel Jackson Williams), are super excited about life and making a movie, using an iPhone, scripted by Evan.
Visiting Terrell at the bar where he works….for open mic night (where Stargirl kills it singing on-stage)……Stargirl meets the woman at table 6, who happens to be one-hit wonder, Roxanne Martel (Uma Thurman)!

Well…..Stargirl being who she is…..
Oh, to see what happens you can watch this movie on Disney+.
“Hollywood Stargirl” is a superb movie, better than “Stargirl” but just not as “magical”. Stargirl no longer has that endearing weirdness about her (which I loved), but, she retains her love of people and the gift of improving the lives of those she touches. And yes….she still brings presents to the door and Cinnamon lives! 🙂
