“The Dig” Movie Review

Edith Pretty (Carey Mulligan) loves archaeology. She and her husband purchased some property with the desire to dig into some of the mounds on the property to see just how old those mounds might be, and what they might hold.

As sometimes happens in life, the best laid plans oft go astray when Edith’s husband died, and the plans to excavate the mounds fell by the wayside.

After awhile, Edith, decided to move along with the excavations, but, no one in England wanted to do them (little to no reward) as the war effort had all the available archaeologists busy trying to dig a major find before WWII started.

Then she found excavator, Basil Brown (Valdemort…..errr, Ralph Fiennes), who, for a paltry sum and two helpers, made the archaeological discovery of a lifetime!

To see what happens, you can watch the movie on Netflix, or you can visit this Wikipedia page for the true story that this movie is based on. 🙂

“The Dig” is a fantastic movie! No action, just people dedicated to their passion….archaeology. Along the way, Edith and Basil, find that they truly care about each other and support each other when the museums take over the dig site while trying to take full credit for the discoveries. They almost succeed.
