Melody Brooks (Phoebe-Rae Taylor) is in the special education class at her elementary school.
Melody is in 6th grade, but she has cerebral palsy which keeps her in a wheelchair and she cannot talk.
Her special ed teachers say she is meeting all their expectations.
Her dad and mom, Chuck (Luke Kirby) and Diane (Rosemarie DeWitt), think the teachers should expand their expectations because Melody LOVES learning and happens to be very smart.
They also want to get her an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device to give her a voice (think Stephen Hawking), but, it is very expensive and the insurance company turned Melody down.
Enter Dr. Katherine Ray (Courtney Taylor) who is doing post doc work at a local university helping kids just like Melody.
Dr. Katherine has a plan for Melody to sit in a 6th grade class once a week.
Melody LOVES that idea, but, the teachers and principal do not….and….

A must see movie for the whole family with an amazing cast…including….Judith Light (Mrs. V) as one terrific neighbor and Jennifer Aniston as Melody’s voice. 🙂
