“Cruella” Movie Review

“Cruella” is a live action prequel to the 1961 animated “One Hundred and One Dalmations” and the 1996 live action “101 Dalmations”. This movie tells the story of how Cruella became the evil……Cruella De Vil.

All her life, Cruella, errr, Estella, (Emma Stone) had the urge to be a mean girl.

A genius with a love of fashion, Estella was always being told by her mother to bring the nice Estella to class and other functions and leave the mean Cruella outside.

That did not always work as Cruella surfaced more often than mom wanted and eventually the schools kicked Estella out.

Then tragedy struck……and Estella hooked up with a couple of small time thieves, Jasper (Joel Fry) and Horace (Paul Walter Hauser), and began a life of crime. Small crimes like pickpocketing, etc. but crime nonetheless.

Horace, Cruella, Jasper

Estella designed clothing to hide her identity during this 10 year span of crime and the clothing she designed was spectacular. One day Jasper made sure the clothing designer, The Baroness (Emma Thompson), got her resume and Estella was hired to clean the bathrooms.

But, Estella’s talent could not be denied and…….

Oh…..to see what happens, you will have to watch the movie in theaters or on Disney+ (like we did) for $30.00 at home.

“Cruella” is a Disney movie but it is rated PG-13 for a reason. It is quite dark with violence and death that may be too intense for the little ones. For us adults…..this is not just a fun movie to kill a couple of hours……it is a spectacular movie to watch over and over again. Emma’s Stone and Thompson are equally spectacular as are Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser. What a cast! And the soundtrack is fantastic, in fact, I was singing along with Blondie….until Lori told me to shut-up. 🙂

Stay thru the first credits…..it’s worth it! 🙂
