“Upside Down Magic” Movie Review

After her mother passed away, Nory (Izabela Rose), discovered that she could do magic. More specifically, she could morph into any animal she concentrated on…..well sort of.

It turns out the animals she morphs into are a mixture of animals and that she has little to no control over her final form!

Yikes.

Nory’s best friend, Reina (Siena Agudong), as luck may have it also has magical powers, but, she is much better at it and can control fire really well.

The time has come for Nory and Reina to head off to Sage Academy….the magic school where they will (hopefully) learn how to control and strengthen their powers.

Reina passes the entry exam with flying colors and is placed in the honors program.

Nory morphs into a kitten / dragon instead of a kitten, and is placed in the UDM (Upside Down Magic) group of “losers” where they will be held until their powers fade away and it is safe to send them back home.

WTF!

Pepper, Eliot, Andres, Nory, Professor Skriff

Well…..it turns out that the UDM class has a great teacher, Professor Skriff (Kyle Howard), who has had enough of “the Sage way” which just discriminates against those who are different, and decides to buck the system and teach the class…..magic!

Their magic…….not someone else’s idea of magic. He tells them to embrace your differences and uniqueness!

And it’s a good thing, because, at the end of the movie……..

Oh to find out what happens, you can watch the movie on Disney+.

“Upside Down Magic” is a fun kids movie with parallels to Harry Potter (a LOT of them) and some pretty cool lessons about being yourself!
