Movie Review: “American Underdog”

Since he was a kid, Kurt wanted to be a football player. He loved the game and he played it well.

Well….when he played.

At his small university in Iowa, Kurt (Zachary Levi) was a bench warmer. His coach did not like it that Kurt left the pocket to throw the ball.

So he sat.

In his senior year, Kurt got the chance to play a little and did well.

Just not well enough to get drafted.

Meeting the woman he was attracted to in the bar (where they played 1990’s country including “Keeper of the Stars” by our fav (see pic below), Tracy Byrd), Brenda Meoni (Anna Paquin), and her two kids Zack (Hayden Zeller) and Jesse (Cora Wilkerson), Kurt fell in love……and got a job.

At a supermarket stocking shelves.

Then came the call to QB with a team in the upstart Arena Football League, and…….

Oh, you already know what happens (I mean, Kurt Warner…..duh) but to find out the details you can rent this movie on Amazon Prime.

Kurt, Kurt 🙂

“American Underdog” is a terrific movie about a great QB in the NFL. But even he had a hard time making it and it was only Dick Vermeil (Dennis Quaid) who really believed in him. And he was right!

The best line in the movie is when Kurt meets Zach and asks his name.: “Zach”……..Kurt/ Zachary Levi smiles and tells him that that is a great name. So funny, and touching. 🙂

Once again, the music rocks 1990’s country….which is OUR country: Neil McCoy, Timmy baby (Tim McGraw), Tracy Byrd, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and so many more. Great stuff.

Go to IMDb for more information.

Oh…..I’ll find a picture…..ah, found it…..let there be no doubt, we were in TB’s fan club in the 90’s (I still have that shirt!).
