Movie Review: “Licorice Pizza”

25 year old Alana (Alana Haim) is working for a photographer taking pictures for the high school yearbook.

Five years from now, Alana figures she will be doing the same boring job.

15 year old Gary (Cooper Hoffman) is in high school waiting on line to get his picture taken.

Five years now, Gary figures he will be rich and famous living in a beautiful mansion.

Gary sees Alana while he is on line to get his picture taken……and asks her on a date.

Alana, Gary

What happens next changes both their lives!

To see how, you can watch this movie on Amazon Prime. 🙂

“Licorice Pizza” is a fun, slightly confusing, nostalgic (for me anyway), coming of age movie where a young serial entrepreneur falls in love with an intelligent and talented “older” woman.

Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman (yes, the son of Philip) are terrific! While cameos from Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn, and others, spice up the movie in unexpected ways.

I loved the 70’s nostalgia, including the gas lines, and, although not shown in the movie, streaking…..all of which I missed being on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. America (now a reef) on a Med cruise.

Trivia: This movie is based on several real people. Alana Haim’s real mother, and Gary Goetzman included.
