Movie Review: “Turning Red”

Meilin “Mei” Lee (Rosalie Chaing) just turned 13.

Mei is an independent “woman” (it says she is an adult on the mass transit card) not afraid to speak up for what she believes in and do what she wants to do.

Except…..her mother, Ming (Sandra Oh), will not let her go to the upcoming 4*Town concert!

So much for being an independent “woman”.

Not only that, Ming keeps a tight rein on Mei expecting her to work at the temple, do her homework, and be “perfect” in every way.

Luckily, Mei has three great friends, Miriam (Ava Morse), Abby (Hyein Park), and Priya (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan).

Priya, Mei, Miriam, Abby

These four friends are alway supportive of each other, and that is a good thing, especially when….

One day….Mei gets angry and changes into a Red Panda!

From that moment, Mei’s life changes forever…and…..

Oh, to see what happens, you will have to watch this movie on Disney+.

“Turning Red” is a fantastic movie about….well……growing up. The trials and tribulations of becoming your own woman (or man) and breaking the ties that bind you to your parents is something we ALL go thru. We ALL have that Panda inside of us, and we ALL must learn to tame it as we grow.
