
Beth (Sophia Lillis) loved it when her Uncle Frank (Paul Bettany) came home from New York City (where he is a college professor) to visit the family in South Carolina.
Beth felt most comfortable with his intelligence, personality, and views on life, and, in fact, he gave her the best advice on life, and we later find out that that advice, in fact, changed her life.
When Beth turned 18, she was accepted to the same university in NYC that Uncle Frank teaches at.
Very cool!
One night she and a new male acquaintance show up unannounced at a party given by Uncle Frank, and it is there that Beth meets, Walid (Peter Macdissi): Uncle Frank’s lover.
WTF? How could she not know?
Not that it matters to her, but, she feels the redneck family back in South Carolina might not approve, and, she is about to find out, since her grandfather (and Frank’s father) dies.

Beth and Frank, and, eventually, Walid set off on a road trip to the funeral where……

“Uncle Frank” is an utterly fantastic movie with top notch, Oscar worthy, performances by Sophia Lillis, Paul Bettany, and especially, Peter Macdissi.
