Helen (Ellie Kemper) has been separated for a year. Recently, the divorce has been finalized and Helen, instead of celebrating, is filled with renewed angst.
Taking her younger brothers advice, Helen signs up for a wilderness survival course hoping to “reset”.
Arriving at the course headquarters (a motel in Connecticut) Helen meets her fellow hikers, most notably Hugh (Nico Santos), and their leader, 12 year old (not really), Beckett (Ben Cook).
She also finds out that her brother’s best friend, and Doctor, Jake (Luke Grimes), is there as well.

The hike / course starts with 7 dysfunctional hikers and one very young leader.

“Happiness for Beginners” is a fun, subdued, indie romcom with a great cast and spectacular scenery. Don’t expect action, shootouts, violence….this is a nice calm romcom about…..life.
